switch-foot FIRST book

Good news. We have some copies of the first switch-foot book (2005) coming back to us in the coming week. We have added it to the shop, but orders will not be posted until the second week of March. The book has been unavailable through us for a long time and we are stoked to have some more to meet the requests from crew writing in and wanting it.

KOOK surfing newspaper (UK)

Daniel Crockett has put this surfing newspaper together over the last year or so, with some epic contributions from around the surfing World. It is selling in England for 2 pounds and you can see more at the link on how to order it if you are in the UK.

AUSTRALIAN customers stay tuned, we have added it to our shop and are taking pre orders and waiting for the eagle to fly in with the goods. www.switch-foot.com/view_item.php

Under The Sun surf film ~~~ Soundtrack

Shot on 16mm by Californian Cyrus Sutton, this film has been held back and not been printed on dvd yet. Many people have never seen it. It is a well produced film and the soundtrack is very tidy indeed. We have just bought 40 copies of the soundtrack from Ubiquity Records in America and they are sitting in our office at home. The double album has 28 tracks from Shawn Lee (london based musician/producer) and 11 tracks from Low Pressure Productions. It is a cardboard package with two discs of fine music.

Surfing

There has been a fair bit of discussion about 'pointed nose surfboards' and crew looking at alternative shapes from knowledgeable shapers such as Chris Brock. There is an interesting interview with Chris Brock talking surfboards titled 'From Greenough to Slater'  www.swellnet.com.au/news/344-design-dna--from-greenough-to-slater

There is an interview about surfing that is worth reading, because it is with Lewis Samuels (post surf)  www.coastalwatch.com/news/article.aspx

We pieced together a feature on Peter Drouyn for coastalwatch to help get more traffic to our site and also to get something out there about Drouyn that is real. www.coastalwatch.com/news/article.aspx

Music

We have been really digging PaulieB's new sounds with Tanuki Dub. Paulie is the Bass Player with the Beautiful Girls band and also a music producer and sound engineer. We encourage you to check in with his new myspace page here www.myspace.com/tanukidub

Shannon Sol R. Carroll (lead singer guitarist with 'Band Of Frequencies') has been recording and post producing some new tunes for some Greenough short films. Shannon's girlfriend shot this at Avoca theatre, playing solo to visuals of 'Dolphin Glide' www.switch-foot.com/shannon-sol-r-carroll

Art

Harry Daily is currently in Bali, or so we have heard, there are some new pieces of Harrys art on his page here. www.switch-foot.com/artist/sketch-holiday

Switch-foot II BOOK

Stoked that the Surfers Path gave us a gig.

Stoked that Scott Hulet (surfers Journal) wrote to us and likes the new book too.

Stoked that PLB gave us a nice review

We have not heard anything from the Australian Surfing magazines,

We did hear that switch-foot II was nominated for the Australian Surfing Hall Of Fame awards. We werent invited or told about it though and wonder how the judges could vote on it if they have never seen the book.

If you are on the Gold Coast check out the Gold Coast Bullentin tomorrow Saturday 27th Feb for a feature on switch-foot II in the 'Paradise magazine' liftout.

Tune in to the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper tomorrow Saturday 27th feb for a book review of switch-foot II in 'spectrum'.

surf injuries

we are seeking people who have been injured by 'pointed nose surfboards' to write in and tell us of their experiences.

Here is one

'I was surfing at 'the pass' in 2007 and saw something horrific. This learner surfer (approx 30 years of age) was trying to surf hollow fast waves on a pointed nose surfboard. Something went wrong for him and the pointed nose hit him in the face. He came up from the wipeout holding his hand over his right eye. When he let his hand off his face, his right eye fell out into his hand and he screamed and then ran to the carpark, then the hospital where he was operated on an YES, he lost his right eye.'

‘Hello?’ ‘Hi honey. This is Daddy. Is Mommy near the phone?’

’No, Daddy. She’s upstairs in the bedroom with Uncle Paul.’

After a brief pause,

Daddy says, ‘But honey, you haven’t got an Uncle Paul.’

’Oh yes I do, and he’s upstairs in the room with Mommy, Right now…’

Brief Pause.

’Uh, okay then, this is what I want you to do. Put the phone down on the table, run upstairs And knock on the bedroom door and shout to Mommy That Daddy’s car just pulled into the driveway.’

’Okay, Daddy, Just a minute.’

A few minutes later The little girl comes back to the phone.

’I did it, Daddy.’ ‘And what happened, honey?’ ‘Well, Mommy got all scared, jumped out of bed with no clothes on and ran around screaming. Then she tripped over the rug, hit her head on the dresser And now she isn’t moving at all!’

’Oh my God!!! What about your Uncle Paul?’

’He jumped out of the bed with no clothes on, too. He was all scared and he jumped out of the back window And into the swimming pool. But I guess he didn’t know that you took out the water Last week to clean it.. He hit the bottom of the pool and I think he’s dead.’

Long Pause

Then Daddy says,

’Swimming pool? ............

Is this 82546573?’
