Well the book is now finalised at it blew out to 400 pages. Harry Daily (californian) artist has been staying at switch-foot centrai helping with illustrations and general stoke and collectively we are frothing to now get the mock copy printed up and see all the glorious spelling mistakes and things in print.
The crew at Empire AVE did an extensive interview with 'ac' www.empireave.com/ and we have leaked about ten pages from the new book online through this interview and we also sent the page spreads to ryan at Shakas n singlefins in the land of Americans. We thought we better send out a 'zine' to let our people know that this interview is up.
Went online last week, and we are open to submissions...and people are free to comment. We started off with a crossword (about surfing stuff) and it was pretty difficult, but felix radcliffe completed it inside 24 hours and won a copy of the new book when it is published. We had some recent technical difficulties with the bLOG, but it is all go now...and will be updated 'harry' daily.
switch-foot WEBSITE, we added pages for Chris Brock, Peter Drouyn, jacob Stuth, Geoff McCoy and Peter Troy and once the book is released we will be adding pages from the 90 contributors who are not on the site already....loads of new photos, interviews, music, crikey....there is so much stuff, it is quite overwhelming.
We hope you swing by the bLOG and send us interesting stuff that we can all have a look at. It is not exclusive by any means, it is not 'cool' it is just a medium to discuss things.
music
You might have heard of the Mattison2, but what about the Ray Mann 3? They are an Australian trio about to tour Australia with a dozen stops from Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay....with influences like Al Green, D'angelo, Sam Cooke, The Roots, The Temptations, Kev Brown, Bill Withers and others and we are looking forward to them coming up to Northern NSW in early July. They already have thousands of fans and well they might. For people who like their music smooth, not edgy modern.
While on music, we have to say Sol Carroll released a solo album to take on 'The Present' tour and there are none left from the original 100 hand made pressings. To all who scored one, well done! They were all hand made packaging, with sewing machines and hand signed by the artist. Hopefully the album will be available on the website one day soon. There is word on the street that Sol Carroll and OJ Newcomb might tour some more surf films later in the year with their acoustic tunes, leading up to the release of the 'Band Of Frequencies' anticipated second album.
We also stumbled across the craziness of Joe Robinson, the child prodigy on guitar, ok well maybe not a child, but he is 18 and simply rips. If he was a surfer, he was doing airs when he was 8 and landing them while eating a mango. www.youtube.com/watch
other things we have heard, the fumes are playing live againwww.myspace.com/thefumesoz, King Tides (reggae) new album is smoking hot www.myspace.com/kingtidesydney
, the soundtrack to 'the present' is now available at such places as Thalia Street www.thaliasurf.com/, Jo Jo Smith is playing in Mullumbimby soon www.jojosmithsoul.com/ and i think Splendor in the Grass is coming up?
More news soon,
say hi to your mum for me
this joke came from 8 year old Tipani.
Why did the Jamaican cow cross the road?
Because the grass was greener on the udder side man.
Seriously though, there hasnt been much time for websites, newsletters or anything but getting book finished, treading water and going surfing....BUT, soon time will be our friend again and I will pimp this mofo bLOG n stuff and keep the aloha flowing with contributions from long ago right to today, there is so much stuff i dont know where to start! We plan to release the book with a shindig in Sydney in October, and i have to go away for 6 weeks in September to Cornwall but will keep the stoke alive through the bLOG while away and come home to a summer of madness. Andrew Crockett.
