Switch-foot Re-Loaded

It is all about the second switch-foot book for one Andrew Crockett right now, diligently compiling the wonderful contributions, interviews, artworks and written word to have a book available for sale later in 2009. The book will be over 300 pages this time, book one was 210. 90 contributors, the first one had 50. The surf has been up, time has been tight, but it is all flowing, stay tuned for a release date, we plan to have a big party in Sydney later in the year!

switch-foot.com

We have ooooodles of new creatives to add to the switch-foot website, once the book is finished. We havent really added anything since the website launched in 2005, but have it all sitting here, clear for takeoff. We plan to rebuff the site and make it more user friendly, easy to find stuff. There is so much beautiful content in the second book, and it will soon be viewable in low resolution on the website.

Harry Daily~Harry The Hat~Sketch Holiday

The rumors are correct. Harry The Hat is in Australia. He has been spotted in Noosa, Byron, at several gigs, and even in the surf. Anyone interested in scoring an original work while Harry is in the country, should drop us a line. He is also available to sign canvas prints and draw on whatever. Harry has been helping us make the second book, word is he might be on the tour bus down to Sydney soon. Happy Hat asked us if anyone knows where the party is? He wants all the social butterflys to report any party activity to him so he knows where to fly to next.

Howie Cooke~ artist

Howie Cooke is a 1950's child with an island aloha spirit, a defender of Whales, an activist, a World traveller though above all, he is an artist living an artists life near Byron Bay Northern NSW.

Howie Cooke helped ignite the passion within David Rastovich to take his celebrity guise onto the World stage and make a stand against the meaningless slaughter of cetacean creatures, whales and dolphins, together they are defenders of the Ocean inhabitants through their surfersforcetaceans organistaion. It goes deeper than that, Howies passion for the Ocean spans decades, here is a glimpse of his art.

Wooden surfboards

As was shown at the recent Alley Fish Fry there is a growing interest in wooden surfboards and a lot of people are having a go at building them.Tom Wegener is well known for his boards and has this year been voted shaper of the year by Surfer Magazine. He has started a huge interest in the Olo and Alaia boards. So I have organised for Paul Jensen from the States to come out and conduct a wooden board building class here on the Gold Coast in August. His method is a light weight wooden frame skinned in wood with laminated rails and light glass.

The classes will be held at The Currumbin Eco Village Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August. If you have an interest or know of some one who may like to expand their skills and experience the thrill of catching that first wave on a board they have crafted themselves , then this is a great way to learn.

The Present ~ surf film

Thomas Campbells anticipated third film, following on from the excellent 'Seedling' and 'Sprout.' Tom and Margie Wegener are helping with the Australian tour, which starts the 16th May in Noosa and winds down the coast for several shows in Sydney. Look out for Sol Carroll (Band of Frequencies) playing acoustic sets at most of the shows with OJ Newcomb on double bass.  Sol Carroll went to Africa, features in the film surfing and on the soundtrack where they recorded music with Chris Berry in Senegal. Word on the street is that Jacob Stuth and the Africa section is pretty classic...nice one Stuthy.

Alex Kopps dot com

Alex has sent us some funny stuff lately, but we cant remember the direct link to it, but do have another look at his website, which is his home in cyberland.

Band Of Frequencies ~ Sol Carroll

The Band Of Frequencies played a bunch of shows with Little Bushman from NZ recently and are currently putting hours in the studio with the second album. Sol Carroll has been producing a solo record also, which will be available on the Present Tour in OZ. Stay tuned for their anticipated second offering, stepping up and out, we are stoked.

Afro Dizzi Act

Afro Dizzi Act are recording with Jali Buba Kuyateh in Brisbane currently, and their next album with vocals from Jali Buba is sounding epic. Be sure to see these guys at major festivals and World Music events into the future. Check out some of their new tunes by clicking here, have a listen to three of their new tracks. The three new tracks on here at examples only, they have added even more pulse and groove to these edits, and even more vocals from Jali Buba, ...looking set for release in August.

the waves

Yes everyone knows, the waves have been on. It is true. You can look at websites that televise the conditions and add to the crowds. If it happened today, its online somewhere, quick tell the people where to go, report where was good....it kinda sucks...good for city folk though who dont get to the sea much.....we have an idea, we think all the webcameras should be burned and replaced with webcamers in the carparks, because if the car park is full, then stay at home.
