Adventures in Sound

Welcome to our official first Band Of Frequencies newsletter!

Band Of Frequencies have recently been touring with Ash Grunwald, showcasing some of their new free soul original funked out sounds that they are becoming famous for. We have been stoked on the feedback and thank you everyone for your emails of
support. For those that missed the Ash gigs, click here for a 2 minute video that was shot from backstage at the Tivoli when Ash invited the Freq's on stage for a jam in the encore.

The Tivoli gig was recorded live and we hope to be able to share that with you soon. Hit us back if you'd like a copy and we can send it out when it's done.

Check out this recent gig review by Tim Baker for Surfing World magazine.

A Brief History

Band Of Frequencies is lead by Shannon Sol Carroll on guitar and vocals. (Afro Dizzi Act, Low Pressure Sound System, Resin Dogs, The Visitors, Banawurun, Soul Prism)

On Bass is Oj Newcomb (Afro Dizzi Act, Low Pressure Sound System, Oka, Far East All Stars, Madelins Couch and others)

On Drums is Mark Henman (Afro Dizzi Act, Numbers Radio and many other bands)

Forming in 2005, Band Of Frequencies quickly got offered a gig in the US and within 3 months they put together an album for that tour called 'Sol Train' (listen here). They did a run of 7 shows in southern California, one of them supporting Andy Fraser, the bass player from 70's rock band 'Free' who some of you might know for the track 'Its all right now. ' The main gigs were playing with David Rastovich at the Coachouse in celebration of the 'Cosmic Creek Surf Festival' and also a Sat night at the famous 'Belly Up Tavern' in San Diego. The other gigs were grass roots sonic affairs in art galleries, funky cafes and other underground Cali haunts.

Before their trip to the US, Band of Frequencies members had started jamming a lot with David Rastovich and they helped produce a surfing film called 'Life LIke Liquid' (watch trailer) with a whole swag of musicians that also surf. This project took close to 18 months of hard work and the result is a film and a double album of music that was all about the jam, the surf and the musicians that were assembled for the two week recording, musicians like Chris Lane (Oka), Terepai Richmond (D.i.g, the Whitlams, Multiball) Ash Grunwald, Jim Banks, James Cox, Fingers Malone and Tony Hughes (King Tide). (click here to view album)

After Life LIke Liquid, members of Band Of Frequencies worked on a soundtrack for Californian filmmaker Cyrus Suttons second film titled 'Under The Sun' commissioned by seminal Californian funk label, Ubiquity Records. You can hear the music here and watch the trailer to the award winning film here.

Today,  Band Of Frequencies are recording their new material straight to tape with renowned Brisbane producer Jeff Lovejoy and have been playing gigs wherever and whenever they get a chance. They are continually working on new sounds and new tracks and have played festivals like Island Vibe, Splendor in the Grass, Woodford Folk Festival, Noosa Festival Of Surfing and of course, most recently the Ash Grunwald supports.

To watch a video of the Freqs at Noosa festival click here.

We also have a live recording and film from the Island Vibe festival in 2008 and look forward to sharing that with you all in the future. Be sure to express interest if you'd like to get hold of any live recordings. We are active bootleggers and also support bootlegging of our shows. Spread the love.

We'd love to hear from you, your stories or any feedback from gigs or recordings etc. You can email us anytime at lowpressureproductions@gmail.com

Thanks for supporting live original music. The next newsletter will be sent when we have another run of shows or something worth hollering about.
