Cyrus is in Australia to tour this film with Tim Bonython and his roadshow, with another film called 'Surfing 50 States.' There is more information on Cyrus on the switch-foot website, a nice interview with the guy here at www.phoresia.org/ Ryan Tatar's excellent blog shakasandsinglefins.blogspot.com
Band Of Frequencies and OKA are playing the Byron and Noosa shows only on Jan 14th (WEDNESDAY) and Jan 17th (Saturday in Noosa).
We hope there is good surf in Noosa, and if hui is down with it, quite happy for ten foot cyclone walls to keep the punters in the carpark.

Christian Bailey and John Isaac having been catching up with some old time english folk who have been chasing waves since before the second world war, in grey old England. There is something pure about people who lie down on surfcraft, bodysurf and are in the ocean strictly for fun...
This is too funny....well done to the makers of this 3 minute short funny surfing film, we love it! This is one of the best 'surfing videos' we have seen, definately the funniest of the year so far!
Ryan takes nice photos, documents the side of surfing that is all about the fun, the trim and the stoke...
Derby House 2006 with Dave Rastovich and John Peck
Following is an entry from a little diary I wrote when we were in California in May 2006.
'The highlight of the day for me though, was the music in the Derby house. After DR had done his serious yoga regime and John Peck had followed, they were later inside in the living room and it was obvious this was one of DR’s 'no talk Tuesdays', which he does for health and sanity reasons. DR was in the Living room playing his handsonic electronic musical toy that he plays gigs with and John Peck was tuning in, sitting silently... listening intently. The house was peaceful, there was no noise, just tranquility. The house was empty, I don’t really know where everyone was. After at least two hours I wandered back in to the house and not much had changed, there was nice ambient handsonic music, no talk and Peck sitting in the lotus position... then John Peck picked up the guitar and proceeded to play some beautiful melodies that went perfectly with what DR had been flowing
with. Then it occurred to me that John had been sitting there getting ready to play music for two hours or more. Respect.'
MUSIC
A photo from AfroDizziActs recent studio recording with Jali Buba Kuyateh. Band Of Frequencies also have a rocking new album in the pipeline, so stay tuned for two great new albums from these two bands. We should also have the 'Under The Sun' soundtrack available for sale sometime soon, and it is a mix of funky stuff from Shawn Lee and something else from Low Pressure.
Professional Longboarding ~ 'Ugly is Best' by Daryn McBride
When executed correctly, longboard surfing is extremely technical and difficult, yet it should be smooth and stylish. Boards are required to be slightly heavier than the stock standard to allow flow, and the skills of the rider are gained with many hours, weeks, even years of practice, with the finer points of the ride sometimes too subtle for the untrained eye.
Take the classic 'Hang 10'; something that is truly unique to longboard surfing, something that can not be performed on any other style of board, something that should be considered as the ultimate in longboarding maneuvers, something that the likes of Ian King and Trent Lillis are masters of, yet the 99% of the surfers in the contest scene in New Zealand struggle to do on a regular basis, in the correct positions on the wave, smoothly and with control; but on the other hand, they need not worry as the points are not there for the art of noseriding, they are actually better off getting the lightest board they can find, and bouncing there way to the shore break to perform another closeout re-entry, as that's where the points are!
So its official, the art of noseriding a longboard has been castrated from the contest scene here in New Zealand, in favor of the longer-board approach. It was clear at the first event of the longboard tour here in Mount Maunganui, that the judges really did favor the stretched hang five bounce to the shore break forced re-entry approach, over any true longboarding, and while I wear my heart on my sleeve, and must apologize to any one I may have offended while venting my frustrations at the dismal state of the competitive longboard scene, being dictated to the surfers by the judging criteria created event by event. Yet they insist on calling them Longboard Contests, should that not be Longer Board contests, as they are just emulating Short Board maneuvers on Longer Boards? With no regard what so ever for the true maneuvers unique to Longboard surfing.
I feel I did discover the answer to my questions in the days following the event at mount Maunganui, as I headed out of town to spend time with my family. I managed to catch up with Matt and Ian King, and slide a few waves on the Coromandel. The over whelming freedom displayed on each and every ride these guys had was a joy to behold, and while we did touch on the sad state of 'Contest Longboard Surfing', the conversation was quickly reverted back to benefits and rewards, of catching up with friends, with a similar focus in the water to yourself, feeding off that energy, and pushing yourself to your limits. I finally felt I was 'Longboarding' again, farewell contest surfing.
